Think about this question - what is your “rock” in life?
Proposition - This morning we are going to see two things 1) the commissioning, and 2) the character of the commissioner.
Interrogative question - How do you view your commissioning and commissioner?

1. The Commissioning - vs. 13-14

The Witnesses -
God - the life giver
Jesus - the model
The Assignment -
Without Stain -
Without Reproach -
The Duration -
Yesterday -
Today -
Forever - “until the appearing...”

2. The Commissioner - vs. 15-16

Blessedness of God -
“blessed’ - (makarios) - adjective, nominative, singular, masculine - attributive adjective - blessed; happy; fortunate
Sense: blessed - characterized by happiness and being highly favored (as by divine grace).
Adjective: μακάριος (makarios), GK 3421 (S 3107), 50×. There are two major ways makarios may be taken in the NT.
First, a makarios individual is “happy” or “fortunate” because of life’s circumstances. Paul says that the widow who remains unmarried is “happier” remaining as she is (1 Cor. 7:40), and, in a somewhat ironic sense, Paul declares that he is “fortunate” to make his defense in chains before King Agrippa (Acts 26:2).
Second, makarios conveys the idea of being especially favored: “blessed, happy, or privileged.” This is particularly true of the individual who receives divine favor, as in the blessings cited in the Sermon on the Mount in Mt 5:3–11. The message of joy is brought to the poor: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5:3). The poor, though weak and powerless now, are, in the end, “privileged” because of God’s favor toward them. Mary is proclaimed “blessed” because she believed the report of Gabriel (Lk 1:45). Likewise those who persevere in trial (Jas 1:12; 1 Pet. 3:14; 4:14) and those who are doers of the word (Mt 24:46; Lk 12:43; Jas 1:25; see also Jn 13:17) find God’s favor. In most of these contexts, makarios takes the form of a pronouncement. That is, though the present situation of those facing trials is difficult, they are encouraged by the prospect of future consolation and reward (“blessing”) from God and thus are able to face the present with courage and hope. The most famous statue was located in the city of Ephesus, the official “temple keeper” for Artemis. Artemis was the chief deity of Ephesus, and her temple was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The temple ceremonies were carried out by priests who were eunuchs and priestesses who were virgins. They conducted the daily ceremonies caring for the deity and for the gifts brought by worshipers, as well as an annual festival on May 25, when numerous statues of the goddess were carried in procession to the amphitheater in Ephesus for a celebration of music, dancing, and drama. This could be the background of the outcry in Acts 19:28: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians.” Artemis. (2003). In C. Brand, C. Draper, A. England, S. Bond, E. R. Clendenen, & T. C.
